Hello!
Up this morning about 7 am and truly, I am still
exhausted! Somewhere on this trip, I am
going to have to catch up on sleep, because I certainly need it!
Today we were scheduled to go to the Tigers/Los Angeles
Angels of Anaheim game at 1:10 pm this afternoon.
So … first things first, and that would be
breakfast.
As we had been unable to find
a
Big Boy restaurant yesterday, we
decided to go to one we knew was actually there!
We invited Sandy Grockau, who is probably my
oldest forever friend to join us, as she has been kind enough to obtain the
Tiger tickets for us.
(Sandy works for a
company that does Ford Motor Company’s PR and advertising – she is truly “the”
woman to know if you are looking for tickets around town!!)

Really good breakfast – even though I had a Big Boy combination plate with hash
browns and a salad with blue cheese dressing; R had the friend shrimp platter, and Sandy had – how odd! – a real
breakfast!
On to the ballgame about 11:45 am; down the I-94 freeway to
the I-75, and we were there!
Sandy also
had a parking pass right next to the stadium, as well as a pass to the
Tiger Den, where we entered the
stadium.
A really nice sized crowd
already gathering and, before we went to find our seats, we first had a ride on
the baseball Ferris Wheel!
SO FUN!
Our seats were in Section 113, which was toward the end of the first
base line, but the really wonderful things were that 1) we were the front row
of the section, and 2) we were in the
SHADE
– all afternoon!
That’s the way to see
an afternoon game!
As we had really just
had breakfast, none of us were particularly hungry.
Sandy and I shared a large freshly popped
popcorn, and I had some frozen lemonade.
R had an Italian sausage, which
he said was excellent!
One thing I did
notice was that there were many, many people in ORANGE, which is one of the
Tigers colors (obviously).
R insisted that I get some sort of Tiger
T-shirt, but my heavens, are those things expensive if you get them at the
stadium!
I finally found a really nice
bright ORANGE T-shirt with
Detroit Tigers
on the front in script, and it didn’t break the bank.
And further, orange definitely is
NOT my color!

As I have been an Anaheim
Angels of Los Angeles [what a clunky name for a baseball team!] fan for
years (from when I lived five minutes away from Anaheim Stadium and it was me,
Nolan Ryan and our 5,000 closest friends!) but also loved the Tigers as a
child, I figured I was in a win-win position!
I’d be happy no matter who won – although R pointed out that conversely (and perversely), I would be unhappy
no matter who lost. Oh well! Angels won 11-4, and while that sounds like a
blow-out, it actually didn’t feel like that while the game was going on.

| A beautiful day for a ballgame! |
Game over about 4:25 pm and then back to the car for a quick
exit from the parking structure, and then began the homeward drive. As we were running right into rush hour
traffic (of course!) the freeways were definitely backed up, with some
completely stopped. Finally, we were
able to find our way out through the Eastern
Market and then to Gratiot. Dropped
Sandy off about 5:00 and headed back to the hotel for (hopefully) an early
night.
Unfortunately, by this time we were both hungry which meant
that we needed to find someplace to eat!
Decided on P.F. Chang’s at the
Partridge Creek Mall, about 6 miles
away. Made our way slowly through some
really major road construction, and finally got to the restaurant. No wait, which was nice, and we ate off the
appetizer menu, which was wonderful:
Shrimp wontons, pork wontons, egg rolls, chicken lettuce wraps and
finally – and the best, some dry-rubbed Korean ribs … wonderful! Waddled our way back to the car, and back to
the hotel about 9 pm. Blogging now, and
then definitely to bed!
More tomorrow, as we make our way north to Sanilac Petroglyph State Park, which we
have been wanting to visit for years!
Hopefully MUCH better than the effigy mounds; we will keep all fingers
crossed!
Lots of love,
m
