Hello!

This is the first entry in our newest 2017 "limited edition" travel blog.  I say limited edition, as we really want this more as a souvenir for us of our trip rather than for general distribution.  Because seriously, how exotic are Chicago and Detroit?  (We may all be surprised!)  So, for those friends like Katy and Sandy, Bob & Stew, we will be posting, hopefully daily, about what we're up to on our drive!

At this point, I don't really have a formal map made up of our route, but I am sure that Robert will be up to making one ... once he wakes up from his nap!  In words, then, we will leave on Monday, the 29th of May, and head as follows:  Durango, Colorado; Denver, Colorado; Omaha, Nebraska; Madison, Wisconsin; Chicago; Detroit suburbs; Bay City, Michigan; Downtown Detroit, Michigan (!); Indianapolis, Indiana; Tulsa, Oklahoma; and finally (!) Roswell, NM before getting home on the 16th of June.

Along the way we will be visiting with family and friends as well as touring some ball parks!  Right now, we have tickets to Coors Field in Denver to see the Rockies play the Mariners; Wrigley Field in Chicago to see the (World Champion) Chicago Cubs vs. St. Louis, and finally, Tiger Stadium in Detroit, where we will see the Tigers play (possibly the White Sox?).

We are also in search of something called Indian Effigy Mounds.  We neither of us had ever heard of them until we found an Iowa quarter, specially minted to commemorate a National Park or Landmark.  And voila, Effigy Mounds National Monument!  Who knew?!  Apparently the largest number of mounds are located in Wisconsin, and Robert -- who lived for several years in Wisconsin, never even heard of them!!  So, we're going in search.  I mean, if we could visit Cahokia Mounds State Historic Park in Illinois, these follow naturally on the list, right?
